Born in La Paz, Bolivia in 1935, Graciela Rodo prepared for two careers; music and painting. She studied piano while attending the School of Fine Arts in La Paz and later in Santiago, Chile. The quality of her talent led her to Vienna, where she pursued studies at the Vienna School of Fine Arts. The first exhibition of her paintings was held in Potosi, Bolivia, in 1951. Since that time she has been honored with one-woman exhibition throughout the United States, Europe and Japan. Notably special exhibition included a one-woman show at the Organization of American States in Washington D.C. and the Museum of Modern Art of Latin America, and a special commission by the Metropolitan Opera to create a commemorative work for the opening of their 1987 opera season. She was also commissioned by the United Nations to create works for the International year of the Child in 1979 and for the 1989 World Summit for Children. Boulangers's scope, vision, and abilities in a host of artistic media have combined to yield a talent that today is recognized among the leaders of the contemporary Latin American art movement.
