Heddy Kun paintings are described as simple direct, light filled pieces in which the artist observes and attempts to capture the fleeting movement of the light. Exemplified in glowing backgrounds, rich constellations of colors and various application methods are the connecting thread of the light that the artist capture binds the artists work together.
Heddy captures her landscapes and portraits in an intimate and unassuming way. A style evolves here that is at once reminiscent of Pisseros impressionist trees and the preciseness of Cezannes geometry complete with patches of Mediterranean hues. The experience conveyed through the canvases is one of beauty and harmony that seems to contradict the past of the painter.
Heddy was born in Yugoslavia in prewar Europe and is a survivor of the Budapest ghetto where she was separated from her parents and forced into hiding with her brother and grandmother during the Holocaust. Despite this through the eyes of her skillful art we are able to distinguish these past and present interpretations.
Heddy first exhibited in Budapest Hungary at the Art Academy where she completed her studies. In 1956 she immigrated to Israel where she established a studio in Tel Aviv. To date Heddy has exhibited in more then 60 exhibits around the world. The first years of her work are devoted to charcoal drawinqs and portraits of children.
During the 1960s Heddy started to explore oil painting which allowed her a wide venue to express her feelings of freedom, color and vitality of Israels landscapes.
Painting in her view is not based on the color alone but also on the materials on which it is imprinted that plays a part in its rhythm its imprint and absorption which all play a vital part in the artists conception. Her pictures radiate an optimism and a clear desire to give joy to their beholder.
A recent article that celebrated 50 years of Heddys work described it as bestowing a magical atmosphere on the pastoral scenes of paths flowers and trees. The paintings invite the viewer to absorb the liqht and enjoy the ambiance which the paintings emanate.
