The distinctive neo-pop style of Romero Britto has made a significant impression in the world of art. Although often compared to Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and Roy Lichtenstein, Romero Britto is a young artist who has emerged onto today's art scene and is reinterpreting our previous conceptions of pop-art. Romero's paintings captivate the imagination. His clean, bold and colorful strokes, reminiscent of a child's unabashed creations, evoke a positive feeling and a refreshing sense of hope. You can feel the artist's love and devotion with the medium he is working. It is a natural spontaneity and sensibility which enables him to manipulate visual textures and powerful primary colors, laying them peacefully adjacent to one another. Each of his works exude positivity and charsima, not unlike the artist himself. Upon further observation these abstract constructions reveal a representation of an often familiar object. Each work resounds with a fundamental command of space, color, form and texture. Romero's paintings are brilliantly charged with not only his masterful selections of color and texture, but they deliver a subtle, yet poignant message. More often than not, the artist's message is one of hope. He addresses many social and political issues with candor and a much appreciated subtlety. Romero's work commands a level of attention that is difficult to ignore, but first and foremost, his art appeals to the aesthetic in us all and is meant to be enjoyed. Romero Britto is not new to the calling of an artist. He showed the inclination to create artistically from a very young age. Romero expressed himself through drawings conjured by the fantastical mind of a child. Art first became an important influence in his life when his brother, a bookseller, brought home a number of art books. "I would sit and copy Toulouse Latrec and other masters out of the books day after day," states Britto. He then realized that his natural inclination could indeed prove to be a worthy profession. Romero could not contain his need to express himself through color, often painting the images of his very active imagination on scraps of cardboard and newspaper. By the early age of fourteen his work already reflected the potential of an extraordinary talent. Recognition came with his first formal exhibition at the Organization of the American States in his native country of Brazil. Romero experienced a level of success and recognition throughout his subsequent travels, resulting in two important one-man shows, which produced sales to the Swedish Royal family. He also had one-man shows in Germany and England. His desire was not only to make his living as an artist, but to fulfill a goal of making exclusive art affordable to everyone. This concept of marketing naturally led Romero's attention to the United States. In the year 1987, at the young age of twenty-three, Romero, anxious to share his newly recognized talents, traveled to .Florida. He found the diverse cultural landscape and the agreeable year round climate so inspiring, he soon established Florida as the location for his new studio and residence for himself, his wife and their son. In the year 1989, Romero's work was brought to the attention of Michel Roux, the former U.S. Importer of Absolut Vodka and the creator of their legendary print advertising campaign. As a result, Romero was crowned their newest showcase artist, along with other contemporary heavyweights such as; Andy Warhol, Armand Arman, Edward Ruscha and Keith Haring. Worldwide exposure propelled this rising star to one of today's most celebrated and recognizable young artists. His paintings grace the collections of heads of states, European nobility, art collectors and superstars of the athletic, entertainment and business worlds. As so many modern masters, Romero has maintained his unique characteristic style, skillfully incorporating his trademark Britto signature as one of his combinations of patterns throughout each of his distinctive compositions. As the demand and price of his paintings continue to climb, Romero maintains that his art must be accessible for all to enjoy. "Art is too important not to share," states Britto. It is with this philosophy that the artist insists on making limited edition serigraphs of his original acrylic paintings, as well as other original collectibles, readily available and affordable to all. When not before a canvas, Romero enthusiastically commits his time, his art, his support and his generosity to numerous humanitarian and environmental non-profit organizations both nationally and internationally. At Amnesty International's, "Artists for Amnesty," in New York City, Romero Britto was the youngest artist to participate among the ranks of such modem masters as, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, Frank Stella and Jasper Johns. Other equally important benefactors are the American Red Cross, UNICEF, St. Judes Hospital, Best Buddies International, and AmFar, among others. To date, at the age of 32, Romero Britto continues to fulfill his dreams with an inexhaustible momentum. His involvement with many important international organizations and a diverse group of people who love and admire this gifted artist and his work has afforded him the luxury of wholeheartedly fulfilling his passion and his dreams. "Since everything in life moves towards a final end, we should fill our life with color and hope," says Britto. Such is the ideal of one truly dedicated individual, Romero Britto, an artist true to himself.
