The "Heart Suite" includes all four individual pieces. At the symbolic level, Max's hearts come into being as a St. Valentine's Day gesture, expressing love in its many aspects - romantic love, tender love and in its most broad aspect, spiritual love. Max also uses the heart symbol as a means to converse with color, brushstroke and form. In the "Heart Suite", Max's hearts are gem-like miniatures, rendered with a minimalistic yet opulent use of color on black paper.
